What is a reservation?
As opposed to a slot, where your OC has time put aside for it to be done, a reservation is a place for you to hold a slot for my next round of commissions. If I have free time before the next round, I'll draw the pony!
The main difference is merely the time frame - in a slot you'll get your pony earlier, in a reservation you'll have to wait a bit longer. Payment upfront is necessary slots, for reservations you don't have to pay until the next round of commissions open. Paying earlier means that your reservation has a chance to be done earlier!
